About us

In 1982 an enthusiastic group of young Lawrence locals got together and organised their first Rodeo, with most of those members still very active within the organisation.

Although better known as the Maclean Rodeo, as the event is held at the Maclean Showground, the Lawrence Rodeo Committee is the founder and promoter of this magnificent event.

The Maclean Showground is, without doubt, the best natural stadium of its kind in the country. It not only offers seating on the hill where everyone has a bird’s eye view of all the action but affords a panoramic view of the glorious Clarence River with the cane fields and hills of Woodford Island in the background.

Initially the Rodeo was held in conjunction with the Cane Harvest Festival, however, since moving the date to the Christmas to New Year Holiday period the Twilight Rodeo has undergone a massive increase in popularity.

The introduction of the ‘Big Screen’ has also proved to be very popular with our patrons. This allows great viewing and action packed replays of all events.

Volunteers are the backbone of every charitable organisation, but particularly so with the Lawrence Rodeo as there is such an enormous workload.  Without volunteers it would not be possible to run such a spectacular event.

The majority of the proceeds raised on the day are donated to local charities with some funds set aside each year for the replacement and upgrade of equipment.

Since its inception, all those years ago, the Lawrence Rodeo Committee has donated in excess of $300,000.00 to many different charities with our major beneficiary being the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
